The Macgyver method

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 13, 2009, 9:07 AM
I can't really remember when it was that my scanner first collapsed, but I do know that it took quite a while to get it fixed.

From what I recall it took the service folk enough time for the guarantee to expire to fix it. It lasted for a while before displaying the same problem again.

Yesterday I decided to open it up myself and see if I could at least recognize the problem. It wasn't really too hard. I pushed it around a bit and noticed that the belt loosens up when it's going back up. It displayed the same type of problem the first time around, only it would loosen while going down.

Then I disassembled the apparatus completely, took a frikkin paper clip and used it to tighten up the belt without damaging or halting the mechanism. One can imagine the reaction to that. I was shocked at the simplicity, pissed off at the audacity, and simply thrilled by the fact that I could scan stuff again.

This proves it, the Macgyver method works. Next time I'll build a landmine using a thread spool and a doggy bag.

On other unrelated notes:
Today was the 3rd friday 13th of this year; the first wave of the swine flew has passed; I used the word 'lucrative' for the first time; I turned 'cloning a mammoth' into a catchphrase; and the keyword of the day is balance.
